Maria Teresa Sarno

The meeting and elective affinities of two “scorpios”such as Luca and Valerie, could only lead to the netherworld, the shadow realm of personality, to explore its many facets. It is touching to realize how two persons, so different in gender, age, training and life experience, could recognize each other and come together in an expressive quest which, albeit using different languages reaches for the same symbolic and archetypal goal. In the Twelfth House you will find the end but also the strength of rebirth, the urge to surface back to light once the dark side has been resolved. That is what Luca’s sculpture of Hades  expresses so well in the tension of a body thrusting upwards, just about to leap off the ground. Imposing in its physicality, it does not appear to be subjected to the force of gravity, but only to the energy of the spirit in its desire to  reach its goal. How thrilling, to linger and observe the art works that mark the different stages of the “journey” and realize that there is a single, unique inspiration albeit in the full diversity of expressed form. What else should I say? The underworld is a world of silence and meditation. Every thought, every uttered or verbally described emotion would add nothing to the depth of feeling that the works convey.
